I correctly spelled my first word, kanban, in the Semifinals. Unfortunately, I missed my next word, icteritious, which means jaundiced. I tied for 20th place. My friend Elizabeth is still in the competition and will participate in the Championship finals on ABC tonight at 8pm Eastern. I was interviewed this afternoon by WCCO radio, and am being interviewed momentarily by KS95 again. Good luck to all the remaining spellers!

  1. Anja Beth, you are amazing! Congratulations for making it to Nationals and the Semis. I have been cheering for you and praying that you and your family will enjoy a wonderful experience in DC. Sounds like you are, even with the disappointment of missing "icteritious" ~ which I am sure you will never misspell again and which you will remember the meaning of for a L-O-N-G time! Way to go, Girl!

(In case you get two comments from me I am not sure what happened. I thought I just posted a comment and it seems to have disappeared.)

  3. We were so proud of you, Anja Beth. When I had Mr. Chowan's class for English we got to watch the bee for a while. We really had fun watching the profile they did on you before it was your turn to spell. All of us cheered for you when you walked up to the podium and were happy that you made it so far.
